Sadly, we don't always get pictures of people's lovely handmade creations as they are whisked off to be used as soon as they come in. Sometimes we are so busy when donations arrive we don't get to gush about them (as much as we would like) and adore them before they are gifted to someone in need.
So this is a big thank you & virtual hug to everyone that has contributed in some small way to the overall success of Angels for the Forgotten and our Annual Craft Challenge.
Turning your crafty thoughts into action is appreciated more than you will ever know.
Amazing crafters that have donated items recently include:-

Penny rediscovered her love of yarn when she retired to the to the Gold Coast with her husband in 2004. When unpacking her boxes she found her "wool stash" that she had been moving from place to place for many years. Penny made the decision to join Knit4Charities and joined a knitting group called "Yarns and Yarn" at the local library and was soon entrusted to distribute the donations.
This active group of about 12 members still meets every fortnight to create items for donation. She also has other generous friends who knit to donate to those in need. Penny now also creates for Knit4Brisbane Needy.
Penny and her busy crafty friends actively donate to many charities (including local hospitals and aged care facilities, our troops overseas and international organisations and more!). AFTF was very excited to have been selected to receive a generous of a range of beautiful hand crafted items as shown below.
Kay is an active member of the SA Knit4Charities group, and has taken the time to make some awesome fingerless gloves for Angels for the Forgotten.
These gloves will provide some much needed warmth in the cold winter months for the teen boys and homeless men receiving them.
Thanks for your kindness Kay!
They will warm hands & hearts.

As promised, I told you that I would get back to you about the huge hand made donation that we received from the amazing Pauline Derich (see right) and her industrious Hervey Bay Knit & Natter group. They are part of the Knit4Charities team.
Pauline is a charity dynamo and along with her kind friends they have been knitting, sewing, crocheting and collecting items for Angels for the Forgotten for a couple of months now.
Collectively they donated (take a big breath now):-
210 - child/adult beanies
20 - scarves
66 - pairs of knitted fingerless gloves
10 - men's shirts & 2 caps
20 - knitted & crocheted blankets
78 - knitted jumpers - child size
40 - toiletry bags
10 - hand made pencil cases
16 - crafted coat hangers (plus a box of plain hangers!)
39 - girls crafted hair clips/bands
22 - stuffed toys (including 8 backyard buddies)
30 - embellished face washers
14 - rolls of fabric
a pair of curtains
& a full box of travel toiletries!
WOW! But seriously that is not all! I will put all of the baby items in their own blog post!
These items will be distributed to our branches that need it the most. Items will be sent via our SE QLD Branch to services on the Gold Coast and others will be sent to our head office in Goulburn in preparation for a long cold winter!
THANK YOU !!!
Now Pauline said she had 'a lot' of items, and as soon as I saw the huge pile of boxes I decided she meant to say 'A LOT!' but hubby was pretty sure she meant 'bring a trailer'!
I can't wait to tell you about Pauline and her generous friends, and show you what they have been creating for us! The boxes are waiting to be sorted & photographed at our SE QLD branch in the next couple of days. So stay tuned!
PS Thanks to Hubby Angel for packing & repacking (when Pauline kept bringing out more boxes!), packing again, squeezing more things in, driving and unloading! x
Knit4Charities was founded by Pamela Tatt in 2004 as a way to help others through craft. It has grown to be an Australia wide group of knitters, crocheters, sewers and other crafters. Their simple mission is to give warm clothing and comforting items (blankets. toys etc) to needy people and animals. If someone is in need, and they can help, they do it - free of charge!
The Knit4Charities team is creating warm winter woollies such as beanies, scarves, cuddle blankets and youth blankets. These will be a great help for the AFTF 2015 Winter Appeal, as last year, despite our best efforts, we struggled to keep up with the need for these items.
Additionally, the Hervey Bay (QLD) Knit & Natter Group (part of the Knit4Charities network) has kindly offered to create items throughout the year for AFTF! How wonderful!
We are delighted to be recognised and supported by a hand made group such as Knit4Charities. AFTF also believe that handmade items provide love and hope to those in need. Each year we run our Annual Craft Challenge with this in mind.
Yours in craft
