The Angels for the Forgotten Christmas Bag Campaign officially starts on the 15th August each year. We ask for donations of Christmas bags 40cm wide x 50cm long in a drawstring style. These are exactly the same size and style as our Crisis Care bags however they are decorated for Christmas!
Here are some of the bright and beautiful Christmas bags we have received this year so far!
In September 2012 I donated some toiletries to a ‘friend of a friend’ for a little charity called Angels for the Forgotten (AFTF). I looked on the website to find out more about the charity and stumbled across the Craft Challenge and made a few toiletry and Crisis Care bags.
I became more and more passionate about sewing for AFTF often contacting Melina often to find out what she needed, then sewing and sending them to her in Wagga Wagga. Just knowing that someone, somewhere might smile a little brighter from one of my creations kept me inspired and motivated. I taught myself to sew crayon rolls, pencil cases, soft toys, face washers and personal hygiene purses.
A few friends joined me and we began sewing and crafting a wider variety of items (bag tags, inspirational cards, Angel blankets, scarves, Christmas bags, journals and superhero sets) to help meet the demands of a growing charity. Behind the scenes Melina was juggling so much and yet she always made time for me and my endless AFTF craft ideas. In 2013 I decided to formalise my commitment to AFTF and become a registered volunteer. In November 2014 I was delighted when Melina gave me the opportunity to be become the first ever Craft Team Leader for Angels for the Forgotten. This would mean that I could concentrate on Craft (the fun stuff!) and Melina could spend more time coordinating the rest of the charity (the hard stuff!).
As the Craft Leader I am aiming to provide more information and support to the crafting community regarding the Annual Craft Challenge and Christmas Bag Campaigns. I will strive to connect with more individuals and groups by revamping the AFTF website craft pages and creating an AFTF Craft Blog. I am looking to re-energise the AFTF Craft Facebook page with more craft content and acknowledgement of those that take the time to donate.
Come with me on this crafty journey & help support those in need with a little hand made love. If you have any ideas or suggestions you can contact me directly email@example.com
