TRANSITIONING TO INDEPENDENT LIVING.
Leaving care can be a very traumatic event for a teen who has aged out of the care system, at this stage youth need to be well supported to ensure they can achieve their potential in adulthood.
some of the things which make the transition so difficult is missing out on those small things that others take for granted, like help setting up your first place, helping learning how to manage your finances, cooking and cleaning for your self and dealing with responsibilities such as bills, insurance, tenant agreements and so on.
getting your own place and becoming independent is so much more than just a roof over your head and some furniture.
Angels for the forgotten is dedicated to working towards better outcomes for youth transitioning from care by offering tangible and practical assistance and support delivered in a flexible and non threatening way which is tailored to each individuals needs.
BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPORT.
Life for a teen is difficult enough, without having the extra burden of struggling to survive. Imagine how much harder it would be to get an education as well. Statistics show a large number of youth in care or living in crisis drop out of school and do not complete their education.
Schooling is expensive; each year costs range into the hundreds for items like uniforms, stationary, text books, levy’s, excursions and much more.
With your help we aim to offer Staying in School packs tailored to the needs of the child. These packs can include the child’s school books and stationary needs, a school bag, assistance with uniform purchases, assistance towards levy and excursion costs, school photos, equipment and textbook purchases.
RECOGNITION OF SUCCESS.
Your school formal is a milestone in your high-school life as it represents your success at making it so far and sticking it out. What if after all that hard work, due to your circumstances you were unable to participate in this wonderful and pivotal moment in your life?
Naturally you would be devastated. Kids in care have already dealt with so many heartbreaks. Their success should be rewarded. They should be able to participate in their Formal Night.
With your help we can ensure successful children in care have the opportunity to participate in special events such as formal or prom with dignity and a little extra sparkle.
